The Binational Recycling Market Development Zone is
a one-year project designed to explore the feasibility of creating a
Recycling Market Development Zone (RMDZ) in Tijuana which would be similar
to those sponsored by the California Integrated Waste Management Board.
This Zone would work cooperatively with the City of San Diego's Southern
RMDZ which is currently located in Otay Mesa. The goal of both Zones is to
entice environmental businesses that use recycled materials as feedstock to
locate in this region. This would
create an additional market for materials
generated locally as well as
contribute to the economic development of both
cities.
